Ecoantibio Award Ceremony – 2024 Edition

The 2024 Prize Winner is Damien Thiry (University of Liège) for In Vitro Effect on Piglet Gut Microbiota and In Vivo Assessment of Newly Isolated Bacteriophages against F18 Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) published in 2023 in Viruses.

The jury, chaired by Claire Chauvin, selected this publication from an international journal. This article received the highest score during the jury’s evaluation.

This publication was deemed highly relevant to support the Ecoantibio plan’s objective of reducing the risk of antimicrobial resistance emergence and researching alternative solutions. It addresses the plan’s challenges by focusing on post-weaning diarrhea in piglets, which often requires antibiotic treatment. It evaluates the effect of phage therapy and opens up an interesting, as yet unexploited, treatment avenue.
