A conference organized under the aegis of the French Animal Health Network (RFSA) was held on June 29, 2022, at INRAE headquarters, on the theme:
“Agroecological Transition: a source of innovation and opportunities in veterinary medicine
for the poultry and ruminant sectors.”
This initiative marks the first concrete outcome of the new animal health research and innovation partnership alliance signed last January between the two organizations.
This partnership aims to facilitate the implementation of collaborative projects of mutual interest on topics related to drug prescription, vaccination, diagnosis of production diseases and zoonoses, and the societal perception of livestock farming.
Welcomed by INRAE CEO Philippe Mauguin, participants first listened to the introductory presentation by Raphael Guatteo, UMR BIOEPAR, INRAE-ONIRIS, on the agroecological transition and its consequences for animal health management.
Two round tables then fueled the discussions:
- The first focused on the consequences of the increase in outdoor-reared animals on health and biosecurity, introduced by presentations from Jean Luc Guérin (UMR IHAP INRAE-ENVT): Ecology of avian influenza viruses in the context of agroecological transition, and Julien Thézé (UMR EPIA INRAE-VETAGROSUP): Contribution of genomic epidemiology for improved surveillance and management of bovine abortive and respiratory diseases, with contributions from SIMV representatives, Olivier Espeisse, CEVA, and Marc Henninger, ELANCO.
- The second focused on the management of antiparasitic resistance, moderated by the President of the RFSA Antiparasitic Resistance Working Group, Christophe Chartier, UMR BIOEPAR INRAE-ONIRIS. Presentations by Cédric Neveu, “ALMA/MTA, a new tool for the early diagnosis of anthelmintic resistance,” and Anne Sylvestre, “In vitro models for screening innovative anticoccidial compounds,” opened discussions with SIMV representatives Hayat Arzouk INDICAL and Benoit Delalleau ZOETIS.
These fruitful discussions will guide the work of the INRAE-SIMV alliance and the RFSA, taking into account the challenges of the agroecological transition in livestock farming and its consequences for animal health.
